There are actually two types of the 5-Alpha-Reductase (5AR) enzyme in the body. Propecia works in some individuals, but it only blocks Type I. In comparison, the naturally-derived non drug HairGenesis™ Oral Soft Gels block both types of the 5-Alpha-Reductase (5AR) enzyme, thus making it much more effective than the Propecia drug. Rogaine does not block either of the types of 5-Alpha-Reductase (5AR) enzyme.

The only Non-Drug hair loss treatment system to ever demonstrate safety and efficacy in an independent clinical study under FDA-regulated, IRB monitored, peer-reviewed placebo-controlled, double-blind research. Rogaine does not work for everyone. Regular Strength (2% solution) may work for 30% to 40% of individuals, producing only modest re-growth. Extra Strength (5% solution) may work for 50% of men, producing only modest hair growth. Certain clinical tests were done using mostly white men aged 18-49 years with moderate degrees of hair loss. If your amount of hair loss is more than that shown on the side of the carton, or your hair loss is on the front of the scalp, Rogaine Extra Strength For Men may not work. Continued use is necessary or hair loss will begin again  In studies with Rogaine Extra Strength For Men, hair re-growth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials.

Generally you will not be able to grow back all of the hair you have lost. There is not sufficient evidence that this product will even work in treating hair loss in the receding hair line. At 12 months of usage, only 48% of the men tested had some increase in the number of hairs grown back on the scalp. After an additional 12 months period of time (2 years of usage), no further improvement in hair count was observed.

Treatment

All four of the products - oral softgels (DHT blockers), topical lotion, shampoo and conditioner are safe for both men and women. The products work on all areas of the scalp: frontal / receding hair line, top middle and back portions of your head.

Safe to use by men (2% and 5% solution) and women (2% solution only). Works only on the top middle portion of the scalp, not on the front area where there is already a receding hair line or noticeable hair loss or baldness. Also does not work on the back portion of the scalp. Intended for use only by people who have limited or moderate, but not severe, hair loss.

Designed only for the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in men only. Will not work for hair loss caused by alopecia areata (abrupt hair loss) or telegen effluvium (a temporary hair loss condition). Product safety and effectiveness were demonstrated in men only between the ages of 18 and 41 years old with mild to moderate (but not severe) hair loss in the vertex and back mid scalp area. Effectiveness for treating receding hair lines in the front area of the scalp has not been established. Do not give to anyone else. Propecia is a medication which is specifically prescribed by a doctor for the patient user only.

Usage / Dosage

Daily use of the 4 hair growth products will generally produce very beneficial results within the first 3 months of use. Results vary by person and some people may have a dramatic decline in hair loss or complete stoppage altogether within the first 2 to 4 weeks of use. Dramatic results are possible, but only after a longer term period of use. Typically, 3 to 6 months of treatment is suggested in order to realize the full benefit associated with HairGenesis™. Once a desired level of hair growth or thickness has been achieved, continued treatment on a maintenance type of program, such as using the oral softgels, (DHT blockers) will help ensure stable and positive hair growth. This may not be needed for all individuals.

Continual daily usage for at least 3 months or more is necessary before any benefit can be noticed. Must be used twice daily to be effective. Typical program requires at least 12 months of use to achieve any positive gain. Two years of use is generally recommended in order to slow down hair loss. Thereafter, continued use is required in order to maintain any results achieved or hair loss will begin again. Stopping the use of treatment also leads to a complete reversal of all hair growth results previously gained within 2 to 4 months time. This product can only work over the long-term if continued use is maintained. If this product has not worked for you within the initial 4 months period of time, it is not likely to produce any benefits from continued use.

Side Effects and Adverse Reactions

None, the oral softgels (DHT blockers) are formulated using naturally occurring nutritional substances and they present no evidence of negative side effects or drug interactions

Like all drug products, may cause side effects, such as mild itching, scaling or scalp irritation. Systemic (internal) side effects are only infrequently observed.

Like all prescription or drug products, Propecia with finasteride may cause side effects. In clinical studies, some men experienced various sexual side effects. The following were reported: less desire for sex (decrease in libido), difficulty in achieving erection, and decrease in semen levels by as much as 25%. These side effects disappeared after various lengths of time when they stopped using the product.

In general, various allergic reactions to using the product include rash, itching, hives, swelling of the lips and face, ejaculation disorders, breast tenderness and enlargement and pain in the male testis. There are other affects on fertility with high levels of dosage and continued dosage.

There also may be hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the drug.

Propecia can affect a blood test called PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen), which is used to test for possible prostate cancer. Men who have this test done should inform their doctor that they are taking Propecia.

Warnings

  May be harmful if used during pregnancy or breast feeding
  
  Not to be used by men using any other scalp medications
  or who are not sure of the cause of their hair loss

  Do not use in the following circumstances:
    - there is no family history of hair loss (heredity factor)
    - there is a sudden and / or patchy hair loss
    - there is a red, inflamed, infected, irritated or painful scalp

Stop using and see a doctor if you experience
  the following conditions:
    - chest pain, rapid heart beat, faintness or dizziness
    - sudden, unexplained weight gain
    - swollen hands or feet
    - scalp irritation that continues or worsens

For external use only, avoid contact with the eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse with large amounts of cool tap water.

For men only. Specifically not for women and children, or pediatric patients, or anyone allergic to any of its ingredients.

Women should not handle (touch) crushed or broken tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially become pregnant, because of the potential possibility of absorption of the active ingredient finasteride through their skin and the subsequent potential risk to a male fetus. This drug should NOT be used by women or children of either gender.

If a woman who is pregnant with a male baby absorbs into her body, either directly or through the skin by handling or touching the tablets, the active ingredient of Propecia - finasteride, it may cause birth defects and abnormalities in the male baby's sex organs. She should consult a physician immediately.

(Tablets are coated and prevent contact with the finasteride ingredient during normal handling, provided that they are not broken or crushed.)

Results of clinical study on the semen levels of 35 men taking the normal daily dosage of 1mg of finasteride (the active ingredient of Propecia) for 6 weeks:

In 60% of the men (21 out of 35), finasteride levels were not detectable in their ejaculated semen. Thus, in 40% of the men (14 out of 35), finasteride levels were detected in their ejaculated semen. Human exposure in women through vaginal absorption of finasteride from semen of men using Propecia is therefore possible and does apparently pose a potential risk to the women, as indicated above.

Based upon other specific warnings against usage of this product by women, it appears that this risk is further exacerbated if they may become pregnant during this period of time or are already pregnant.

Warning for women who are nursing babies - it is not known whether finasteride is secreted into the mother's human milk which is then consumed by infants.

Caution should be used by patients with liver function disorders, since finasteride (active ingredient of Propecia) is metabolized extensively in the liver.
